Charcoal / Graphite

A collection of original charcoal and graphite drawings exploring portraiture, expression, light and detail.

I love the simplicity of working in black, white and every shade in between. Without colour to rely on, the focus becomes much more about light, shadow, texture and expression. A few carefully placed marks can completely change the character of a face.

These works range from intimate personal portraits to studies of people and subjects that have caught my attention. Each is drawn by hand, with an emphasis on capturing something beyond simply creating an accurate likeness.

A detailed graphite portrait of one of my daughters, celebrating the small details that make a face unique. The freckles become part of the character of the portrait, creating something intimate, natural and personal.

A personal graphite study of my daughter Isla, focused on the expression and character held in the eyes. Working in graphite allows the subtle changes in tone, reflection and detail to bring the portrait to life.

A charcoal portrait of actor Tamer Hassan, focusing on the strength and character in his expression. The contrast between light and shadow gives the drawing a distinctive, dramatic quality.

This portrait was donated to Tamer Hassan to support his Turkey Earthquake Fund, helping raise awareness and contribute towards support for those affected by the devastating earthquake.

4b. Dad.PNG

A charcoal portrait of my late father, created in his memory. This piece is particularly personal to me, capturing not only his likeness but a moment of connection that I can continue to hold onto through the painting.

For me, portraiture is about more than creating an accurate image. It is about preserving something of the person, their character and the memories they leave behind.

7. Self portrait.png

An exploration of self-portraiture through charcoal, using light, shadow and texture to create a more introspective representation of the artist.

A detailed graphite portrait of my sister, Lisa Nash, a familiar face from television. This piece was created to capture not only her likeness, but also the character and personality that have made her recognisable to audiences.

Working in graphite allows the portrait to focus on subtle changes in tone, expression and detail, creating a more intimate and personal interpretation.
