Tamer Hassan

I wanted to capture something of Tamer Hassan's presence in this portrait, particularly the strength and character that come through in his expression. Charcoal felt like the right medium for the piece, allowing me to create strong contrasts between light and shadow while retaining a raw, expressive quality. The portrait also took on a meaning beyond the artwork itself.

I donated the original drawing to Tamer Hassan in support of his Turkey Earthquake Fund, helping to raise awareness and contribute towards support for people affected by the devastating earthquake.

Knowing that a piece of artwork could be used to support something much bigger than itself made this a particularly meaningful project for me. It became less about simply creating a portrait and more about using my art to contribute, in a small way, to something that mattered.

For that reason, this remains one of the most personally significant charcoal portraits I have created.
