Threshold
Oil on Canvas - 75cm x 60cm x 4mm depth - £550
Threshold is about that moment when one place or feeling begins to become another. The painting moves from deep blues and darker tones towards a brighter, warmer light at its centre, creating a sense of space and transition.
I was interested in the idea of standing at a threshold. Not quite where you have been, but not yet where you are going. The changing colours and soft movement within the painting create an atmosphere that is deliberately open to interpretation.
The central light gives the painting a sense of hope and possibility, while the deeper blues surrounding it bring a feeling of calm and reflection. There is no specific landscape being represented; instead, the painting is more concerned with the emotion that a landscape can create.
For me, Threshold is about change, but also about stillness. Those moments when everything feels uncertain, yet there is something ahead that draws you towards it. I wanted the painting to capture that quiet sense of possibility and leave the viewer to decide what lies beyond the threshold.
