I finished this portrait of Sir David to mark his recent 100th birthday. It felt like the perfect time to paint someone who has spent a lifetime educating, inspiring, and helping people connect with the natural world.

For many of us, documentaries like Blue Planet weren’t just entertainment. They changed the conversation. His work helped bring environmental issues, particularly plastic pollution in our oceans, into homes around the world and inspired millions of people to rethink everyday choices.

What I admire most isn’t just what he achieved, it’s the consistency of purpose.

For over seven decades, he has dedicated himself to a cause bigger than himself, helping generations understand and appreciate the planet we all share.

I often tell my children: be useful, find purpose, and try to leave things better than you found them. Sir David has done exactly that. A century of curiosity. A century of learning. A century of making a difference. What a legacy.
