Miles Davies
Oils on Canvas - 120cm x 120cm x 3.6 cm - £1200
How do you paint something that is normally heard? That was the question I asked myself before starting my latest painting of Miles Davis.
I’ve always admired Miles, not just because of his extraordinary musicianship, but because of the way he led. He created space for others, encouraged improvisation, and trusted the musicians around him to listen, respond and create something together that no single person could achieve alone. I wanted to translate that into paint.
The bold blues, expressive brushwork and flowing forms are my attempt to capture the physical effort of playing the trumpet, the breath, the concentration, the sustained notes, and the emotion that fills the spaces between them.
